PURPOSE:To obtain the title composition which, even when a relatively weak electric field is applied, generates a relatively high shear stress and permits an electric current with a small current density to pass by allowing the number of sulfonic acid groups to exceed the number of aromatic rings in a sulfonated polymer which composes particles of a dispersion phase. CONSTITUTION:Particles of dispersion phase comprise a sulfonated polymer having aromatic rings substituted by sulfonic acid groups (e.g. a polymer produced by sulfonating aromatic rings present in a crosslinked polymer of a monomer mixture which comprises a vinyl aromatic compound and a polyvinyl compound as the main components, and if desired, other vinyl compound). The title composition is obtained by dispersing the particles into an insulating dispersion medium. In the sulfonated polymer which composes particles of the dispersion phase, the number of the sulfonic acid groups exceeds the number of the aromatic rings. The obtained composition has such excellent electrical properties that, even when relatively weak electric field is applied, it generates a high shear stress and is excellent in long-term stability of the generated shear stress and the current density. |
