PROCESS FOR PURIFYING BLOOD PLASMA

Blood plasma is purified to reduce colour and odour by (1) treating with an acidic or basic substance at 0-40 deg C to adjust to pH 3-6 or 9-13, and adjusting to pH to 7-8. This treatment modifies and removes hemoglobin; (2) treating with active carbon under acidic conditions (pref by adding an acidic substance to pH 3-6 at 0-40 deg C using 0.5-10% wt of active carbon) with subsequent removal of the carbon and adjustment to pH 7-8; (3) treatment with a polyelectrolyte (contg carboxyl gps) such as alginic acid, Na alginate, polyacrylic acid, poly(sodium acrylate) or carboxymethyl-cellulose (0.001-10% wt) at 0-50 deg C (and opt also with active carbon) and adjustment to pH 1-5; (4) filtration through a ceramic filter with a pore size below 25 microns.
