To fill accumulator cells with a solidifying sulphuric acid electrolyte having a sulphuric acid density of between 1.20 and 1.31 using a water-in-oil emulsion containing a polymer as polyelectrolyte in the water phase, preferably containing a polymer or copolymer of an acrylamide, in which process the emulsion, together with a sulphuric acid/silicic mixture inverts to form an oil-in-water emulsion and then solidifies,… - sulphuric acid, optionally containing up to 3% by weight of suspended silicic acid as first starting component A,… - a suspension composed of water containing 6 - 12% by weight of silicic acid as second starting component B,… - and the water-in-oil emulsion as third starting component C… are so adjusted that a final concentration of 3 - 5% by weight of silicic acid and 0.1 - 1.0% by weight of emulsion polymer is produced and that the starting components A, B, C are vigorously mixed with a mixing energy of 1 - 10 kJ/m<3> and the accumulator cells are then immediately filled with the mixture. The starting components A, B, C have fairly long storage life. On leaving the mixer, the mixture solidifies after about 120 - 180 s. |
