PURPOSE:To increase surface area by mixing Al alkoxide with Si alkoxide in a specified atomic ratio of Al to Si, heating the mixture in glycol and firing the resulting product. CONSTITUTION:Al alkoxide represented by a formula Al (OR)2 (where R is <=6C alkyl), e.g., Al isopropoxide is mixed with Si alkoxide such as ethyl orthosilicate in 5-60 atomic ratio of Al to Si. This mixture is suspended in glycol such as 1,4-butanediol and brought into a reaction by heating to 250-300 deg.C. The weight of the glycol used is 1-100 times the total weight of the alkoxides in the mixture. The resulting reaction product is separated by filtration, washed, dried and fired at >=1,100 deg.C under circualting air to obtain SiO2-modified Al2O3 having a large surface area. |
