7466/88 A protective device for pipe-ends comprises, depending upon whether it is used as a cap or a plug, a metal housing having a sleeve-like insert of elastomeric material or a metal plug having a sleeve-like cover of elastomeric material. In order to improve the stability of the protective device, the metal housing or metal plug, each of which is of tubular design, comprises, at the outer end, a knurled or folded edge, preferably in the form of a rolled edge. In order to facilitate production of the protective device, the insert or cover may consist of at least two partly cylindrical casing parts adapted to be joined together.
