PURPOSE:To obtain useful monocyclic and dicyclic aromatic compounds in high conversion by the catalytic cracking of polycyclic aromatic compounds in hydrogen atmosphere using a metal-supporting zeolite as a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:Polycyclic aromatic compounds having >=3 rings (or heavy oil, etc., containing the same) are cracked by catalytic cracking in hydrogen atmosphere at about 300-550 deg.C and about 30-100kg/m<2> pressure using a metal- supporting zeolite catalyst produced by the ion-exchange treatment of preferably an ammonium ion-substituted Y-zeolite. The metal to be supported on the carrier is Ni, Fe, Mo, La, Co, Rh, Pt, Zn, Ru, Pd, Ti, Co, Cu, etc. |
