PURPOSE:To render isotropy and electrical conductivity to starry graphite whiskers by heating starry polymer whiskers to the subtransition temp. in an ozone atmosphere, allowing the whiskers to stand, heating them again to a prescribed temp. in vacuum and dispersing the resulting starry graphite whiskers in thermoplastic resin. CONSTITUTION:Starry polymer whiskers as starting material are heated to the subtransition temp. in an ozone atmosphere, allowed to stand for several hr or more in the heated state and heated again to >=2,400 deg.C in gaseous Ar or in vacuum. Graphitization is accelerated and starry graphite whiskers, that is, acicular graphite whiskers elongating radially from one point are obtd. |
