MENU BYPASS METHOD AND DEVICE

PURPOSE: To allow a user to bypass unnecessary screen display by controlling a display terminal by means of an application program within a host processor so as to allow the host and the display terminal to communicate through a communication controller in a half-duplex protocol. CONSTITUTION: The terminal 10 is generally provided with a display screen 12 and an input device 14 like a keyboard, the application program operated by the host processor 16 controls the terminal 10 and communication between it and the host 16 are executed by a communication controller 18. The half- duplex protocol is maintained between the host 16 and the terminal 10 by communication links 22 and 24 and the terminal 10 receives the permission of transmission to the host 16 concerning the application program operated by the host 16. The host application sends data to the terminal 10 or reads data out of there at an optional point of time and this protocol locks the input 14 after whenever transmission from the terminal 10 is finished. Thus the use can bypass unnecessary screen display.
