METHOD OF BENZENE SULFONIC ACID OR TOLUENE SULFONIC ACIDS AND THEIR DERIVATIVES REMOVAL AND RECLAIMING FROM WASTE WATERS

The solution concerns a method of elimination and regeneration of benzenesulfonic acids or toluenesulfonic acids and their derivatives from waste waters, for example from production of chloramine B or chloramine T, using counter-current extraction of higher-molecular-weight amines. The above-mentioned wastewaters contain apart from sulfonic acids and their derivatives (mainly chlorinated derivates and amides) a significant quantity of strong mineral acids and their salts. According to the solution it is possible to separate the above mentioned sulfonic acids and their derivatives from mineral acids an their salts by use of tertiary amines with molecular weight of 200 to 600, dissolved in liquid hydrocarbons, their chlorinated derivatives, in water non-soluble alcohols and ketones. It is also possible to separate selectively the chlorinated derivatives from sulfonic acids, or eventually amides of sulfonic acids from the other components. In the last case according to the invention the amides are firstly separated by extraction by the solvent itself and subsequently the sulfonic acids and/or their chlorinated derivatives by the solution of tertiary amine. According to the invention the obtained organic extracts are regenerated by counter-current contacting with water solution of sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide.
