A device for the electrolytic regeneration of a metal-containing etching agent comprises a rotating separation drum (5), the jacket (7) of which acts as the cathode for the process of electrolysis. A stripping device (18) removes the metal deposited on the jacket (7) of the separation drum (5) during electrolysis. Prior to this, however, the metal layer formed which is still on the separation drum (5) is compressed in the wet medium by a first pressure roller (15) which is at least partly in the etching agent. A second pressure roller (16) arranged in the direction of rotation of the separation drum (5) squeezes the metal layer on the jacket (7) so that any etching agent remaining in it is largely removed and can flow back into the electrolysis chamber (2). The jacket region of the separation drum (5) between the pressure roller (16) outside the etching agent and the stripping device (18) serves as a drying region so that a substantially dry, pulverulent metal can be removed by the stripping device.
