A metal bowl folding a filter insert for vehicle fuel ends with a cover disc, with a flanged rim. On the outer surface of the disc, and some distance in from the rim, is formed a protruding peripheral rib, extending in a ring right round the disc. The end section of the bowl is beaded round the disc rim, with sufficient length to form a final collar which contacts the protruding rib and is welded thereto. The bowl may be strengthened by a shallow channel formed in the side wall.
