A winding unit is used to wrap two or more layers of insulation material onto an electrical or optical cable (8). The unit has a magazine (6) with a pair of tape spools (7). The magazine is supported on the rotor assembly (2) coupled to a drive pulley (5). The tape is drawn off the spools in a winding bell (3) and passes over guide rollers (14) to be wrapped around the cable. The cable is fed linearly through the centre bore of the unit. ADVANTAGE - Provides controlled winding of tape onto cable.
