Prepn. of pourable defoamer granulate contg. (a) a water-insol. defoamer (A), i.e. an organopolysiloxane (I) contg. finely-divided SiO2, opt. mixed with paraffin oil and/or paraffin wax; (b) 0.2-3 wt.% mixt. (80:20 - 40:60) of Na carboxymethylcellulose (NaCMC) and methylcellulose (MC); (c) 70-90 wt.% inorganic carrier salt (II), soluble or dispersible in water, and (d) the balance water, is new. An aq. soln. of 2-8 wt.% mixt. (b) is swollen at 15-60 deg.C until the viscosity of the soln. has at least 75% of the viscosity measured for a fully swollen (b) soln., then (a) dispersed in this and after addn. of (II) and opt. water, the homogeneous dispersion is spray-dried. Component (a) is 7.5-15 wt.% and (II) is a phosphate-free mixt. of Na silicate, Na2CO3 and Na2SO4. USE/ADVANTAGE - Replacement of the phosphate carrier (DE3436194) with non-aphosphates gives a product which is less damaging to the environment. Despite a high (A) content the compsn. is free-flowing and storage stable, and the total amt. of (A) required is reduced.
