PURPOSE: To enable elimination or substantial reduction of marring or scratching in the peripheries of printed numerals or characters by a constitution wherein transfer of colored images onto an image printing medium by a second coat layer in heating is assisted by a first coat layer. CONSTITUTION: A thermal transfer ribbon 20 which is used in a thermal printing process includes a coat layer 34 of a thermal reactive material applied on one side thereof as an undercoat layer 24. The ribbon 20 having this coat layer 34 transfers the coating material onto a recording medium of papers 28 or the like in a printing process, forming characters, symbols or other marks made images or marks on the papers 28 and making those characters or others readable by machines or other reading devices. In a process of transfer of the coating material, the undercoat layer 24 is transferred onto the coat layer 34 of the thermal reactive material so that it may resist marring or scratching of transferred images or other marks. |
