<p>A purifying device (10) for use in a sterilizing vessel (1) comprises a barrier formed by a microporous, hydrophobic membrane (11) which, in one example, is mounted in a shaped plate or manifold (14) which has a peripheral seal (15) for sealing against the internal walls of the vessel (1). The membrane (11) is constructed so as to be impermeable to contaminants or impurities contained in the water (8) or other liquid sterilizing agent but permeable to steam or vapour produced by the liquid agent for sterilization of objects (7) in the vessel (1). In another example, the barrier is dish-shaped and fits closely, but freely, within the vessel (1) with the membrane (11) mounted in the base of the dish. The dish has a peripheral flange to support it above the level of the water (8) or other liquid in the vessel (1).</p> |
