An engine oil contains and, as base component, up to 10 wt.% of an alkylphenol alkoxylate of formula R1 - (O -(R2 - O)nH)m. R1 = residue of an alkylphenol with 1-2 alkyl gps. with 6-24C, or of a bisphenol; R2 = residue of butylene oxide, opt. mixed with propylene oxide: n = 5-100; m = 1 or 2.
