Acceleration sensor for safety belts in vehicles - incorporates rack=and=pinion assembly and is accommodated in seat backrest

The vehicle-sensitive acceleration sensor is for activation of vehicle safety systems. Pref. for the locking of a safety belt rewinder in a vehicle, in cases of danger. The rewinder is integrated into the seat backrest, and its housing/frame is pivoted about a horizontal axis, and locked by an adjusting devce. A lever (10) fastened to the backrest (7) carries a pinion, the rotary axis of which cuts across the pivot axis of the backrest. The pinion meshes with a toothed rack, which is fixed to the backrest, and curved concentrically to the pivot axis. The pinion shaft is connected to a flexible shaft, the other end of which carries a wheel, to adjust the frame of the acceleration sensor dependent upon the pinion position.
