PURPOSE:To obtain a sustained release material for a drug, composed of a solid prepared by mixing ceramic fine powder with drug powder, then press forming the resultant mixture at ambient temperature, excellent in persistence of sustained release effects and capable of readily controlling sustained release characteristics. CONSTITUTION:A sustained release material for a drug obtained by mixing ceramic fine powder composed of calcium phosphate-based, oxide-based, carbide- based, nitride-based ceramics, etc, having <=1mum particle diameter with drug powder in an optional proportion and then press forming (preferably forming by isostatic pressing) the resultant mixture at ambient temperature. A layer structure composed of plural layers different in kind and concentration of the drug, kind of the ceramics, etc., can be provided to change the kind of the drug released in a certain period and further the release rate of the drug in a certain period. If diseases in bones are treated, tricalcium beta-phosphate and hydroxyapatite are especially preferably used as the ceramics. |
