摘要 PURPOSE:To reduce shock by making a number of frictional engaging means that switches engagement/release condition, less than two, at the time of gear changing from a gear stage of plural combinations of engagement/release of the frictional engaging means at a certain gear stage, to other gear stages. CONSTITUTION:In an automatic transmission comprising first through third planetary gear mechanisms 1-3, by preferentially engaging or releasing clutch means K1-K5 and braking means B1-B4, a gear stage for five-speed advance and one-speed astern is achieved as well as plural combinations of engagement/ release of clutch and brake are provided for setting a certain gear stage. A pattern of engagement/release is selected so as to make a number of frictional engaging means that switches engagement/release condition for changing gear from the certain gear stage to other gear stages, no more than two. For example, for 4-5 gear change, after K1 is released while K5 is engaged, K4 is then released while B3 is engaged. Change gear shock can thus be reduced.
