The coaxial-line network installation for distributing audio-visual programmes also allows the communication of digital data, for example in a hotel. A head end (14) connected to a wired network (16,20,24) for distributing television programmes to connecting sockets of programme receiver terminals and digital communication terminals. The digital communication terminals (36) comprise means (40) for digital modulation of a carrier at a first frequency fe and means for reception and demodulation of an incoming modulated carrier, at another frequency fd. An apparatus is linked to the network for transposing signals from the frequency fe to the frequency fd; and the installation also comprises means (46) for managing the digital resources and for interrogation of the communication terminals connected to the network. <IMAGE>
