Comber detaching cylinder - made of fibre cpd. material with metal end journals for strength

In the detaching cylinder assembly, for a comber, the detaching cylinder has end journals where at least the peripheral surfaces are of metal. Pref. at least a rod or a tube for the cylinder is made of a fibre cpd. material, with two end journals of metal inserted into the ends. In another form, the cylinder is a fibre cpd. tube with a metal core, which also forms the journals at the ends, and the core is in contact with the outer tube only in the centre zone. A metal tube can be pressed in place over the rod and tube, together with an outer cladding of a rubber elastic material. Where the cylinders are in a row, the neighbouring cylinders can be bonded together by adhesive at their journals. The fibres of the cpd. material are oriented so that, in a detaching cylinder, they lie at an angle of 20-40 deg. to the cylinder axis and, on a pressure cylinder (6), lie at an angle of 5-10 deg. to the axis. ADVANTAGE - On a reduced cylinder weight and mass moment of inertia, of part of a cpd. fibre material, all the cylinders have a high strength and high resistance to wear at the bearings.
