The height-adjustment mechanism is for a three-legged stand with a vertical column (5) accommodating a universal head. The column slides in the bearing bore of a metal bush (2) under the action of a rack-and-pinion mechanism. The three legs (1) hinge on the outside of the bush, at points equally spaced round the periphery. The column is an aluminium tube, while a separate toothed rack (11, 12) is inserted in the axial direction at one side of it. A pinion (15) mounted on the bush meshes with the rack. USE/ADVANTAGE - Three-legged stand has height adjustment mechanism which is low cost and noiseless in operation, being particularly for video cameras.
