The bowls (2) are arranged in small individual modules (1) having a rigid and stable base and, on one side, an information recording medium such as a magnetic tape. Preferably, each module (1) includes four bowls (2). Furthermore, the assembly comprises a linear transfer line (12) for intermittently moving the modules (1), side-loading and -unloading processing stations, side transfer stations (23) for transferring a module (1) from the line (12) to a processing station and vice versa, means (26) for reading off the information recorded on the module which controls the activation of the side transfer stations (23) and the processing stations, and means for recording information concerning completed processing on the module. The processing stations include a liquid analyte loading station (18), an incubator station (28), a reagent-adding station (45), a centrifuging station (39), and a reaction-reading station (43).
