A cathode for an Li battery is produced by (A) mixing CrO3 and SO3 and heating the mixt at a rate below 3 deg.C/min up to 270deg.C and B) as known comminuting the cooled prod. to a powder, mixing it with PTFE and pressing the mixt into a plate. The heating is pref. carried out for 0.5 hr to 50 deg.C, for 1hr to 200 deg.C and for 5 hr to 270 deg.C. (A) contains about 2wt.% SO3 and also 0.1-10wt.% heavy metal oxide. The mixt in (B) contains 20wt.% C-black, esp. high capacity furnace C-black, and 10wt.% PTFE. ADVANTAGE - Cathode has a considerably better energy density even for small discharge currents than known ones; the cathode material is nearly free from CrO3.
