Attachment of cyclist's shoe to pedal - has two plates which permit limited movement in longitudinal direction

The cyclist`s shoe is attached to the pedal fo the bicycle by a baseplate (2) and a second plate (3). The sole (40) of the shoe has three bushes (41) embedded in it. These bushes (41) have internal screw threads (42) to receive screws (27). The heads (28) of these screws (27) are fastened to the second plate by small slotted plates (5) which fit in rectangular recesses (30) in the second plate which is fixed to the pedal. The base plate (2) is fixed to the second plate by three screws (31) which prevent relative movement between the two plates. The small slotted plates permit a limited degree of movement in the longitudinal direction of the shoe.
