The lighting unit has a rectangular lamp housing (1) fitted to the top of a mast (4), with angularly adjustable lamella plates (7) extending parallel to the axis of the light source (5) and perpendicular cover plates (8,10). The angular position of the latter and their distance from the lamp longitudinal axis are both adjustable. The lamella plates (7) and cover plates (8,10) cooperate to define an enclosed space fitted with a transparent cover (2). ADVANTAGE - Simple in-situ adjustment of lamella plates and cover plates to determine light output characteristics.
