<p>A gas spring comprising a cylindrical body (10) having a base wall (11) and an integral side wall (12) with an open upper end defining a bore (13). The bore (13) includes a lower cylindrical portion (14) and an upper cylindrical portion (15) of greater diameter than the lower cylindrical portion defining a shoulder (16). A piston (18) of constant diameter is positioned in the bore (13) and has a radial flange (19) on its lower end with a wear bearing (20) contacting the lower portion (14) of the bore. An annular retainer (21) is positioned on the shoulder (16) and is adapted to be engaged by the flange (19) on the piston (18). An annular end cap (22) is threaded in the upper cylindrical portion (15) of the bore (13) and maintains the retainer (21) against the shoulder. An annular lock nut (23) is threaded in the upper portion (15) of the bore (13) and locks the end cap (22) in position. Circumferentially spaced radial openings (34) are provided adjacent to the periphery of the lock nut for venting gas during disassembly if any gas remains. A charging valve (38) and a rupture plug (43) including pressure relief disc (44) are provided in the base wall (11). In one form, the gas spring includes a plurality of longitudinal spaced annular ribs (55,56,57,60) which provide heat dissipation.</p> |
