PURPOSE: To produce an improved multi-color-printing copy by selecting the reflection factor of one portion of a selected region of a photoconductive member that is covered with a toner particle with an infrared densitometer. CONSTITUTION: A focusing lens 114 is arranged to receive rays reflected from a movable photoconductive member. A densitometer has a light-sensitive element array 106 for generating a signal that is proportional to the diffusion constituent of the total reflection factor of a selected region of the photoconductive member being arranged to receive rays through the focusing lens 114 and a reference signal that is proportional to the diffusion component of the total reflection factor of the region of the photoconductive member that is not covered with a recording particle. Further, the densitometer has a control circuit network that is electrically connected to the light-sensitive element array 106 and obtains a control signal as a function between the signal and the reference signal. By measuring the reflection factor of one portion of the selected region of a photoconductive member that is covered with the toner particle using an infrared densitometer, an improved multi-color-printing copy can be produced.
