PURPOSE:To obtain a pulse discharge gas laser device capable of starting a uniform glow discharge by a method wherein a pair of insulators is interposed between a pair of electrodes so as to constitute a cylindrical discharge section with the electrodes. CONSTITUTION:Electrodes 1 and 2 are arranged in parallel so as to be opposed to each other in laser medium gas of high pressure, the electrode 1 is connected to a power source through the intermediary of a terminal 3 to serve as an anode, and the electrode 2 is grounded to serve a cathode. An insulator 4 of glass is provided on both the sides of a primary discharge 6 so as to enable the primary discharge 6 to start when a high voltage is applied between the electrodes 1 and 2. That is, the electrodes 1 and 2 and insulators 4 constitute a discharge section together, and the primary discharge 6 is made to start at the center of the cylindrical discharge section. These insulators are rectangular parallelopipeds, and irregularities 7 are provided to the inner wall faces of them to make a discharge distance long so as to prevent a discharge from occurring along the wall face (creeping discharge). |
