Embossing printer for side of container - produces shaped film by using optical scanning process

The opto-mechanical prior distortion device prints a translucent original onto a substrate. The distortion print is formed into the print of the original when the substrate is formed into the container etc. The original is illuminated and scanned line by line at a first speed in a first distortion device and a film on the original side furthest from the light source in a film support which is moved at a second speed to obtain the requisite distortion effect. A flexible array (14) of directed lightwave guides fitted between original (2) and film (18) should have a window (13) facing the original and corresponding to the scan lines as inlet aperture and an outlet window (17) facing the film (18) and spanning the entire film width. The outlet window should move flexibly and locally relative the film to obtain the second speed (26) as superimposed on the first speed (20). USE/ADVANTAGE - Film printing by embossing, e.g. container production. Distortion between original and film obtained by interposed light guides and movable outlet window giving adaptive speed ratio to suit container.
