PURPOSE:To ensure focusing by smoothing a history of movement and position of an object so as to set the position of a focus sensing area. CONSTITUTION:A logic control section 46 fetches a count of a horizontal counter 32 and a vertical counter 42, a horizontal position data by each horizontal scanning data hold circuit 34 and a vertical position data by a data hold circuit 44 for each field to discriminate horizontal and vertical position of a peak of a high frequency component of the field. Moreover, the positions of peak points from a current field to two preceding field are stored and the peak position of the succeeding field and the position data of the peak point of the current field are predicted and a control signal is fed to a gate pulse generating circuit 24 so as to set a focus sensing area to a position around the calculated peak point. Thus, an object tracking always stable and accurate with high accuracy is attained. |
