Trilateral trimming of, preferably folded, signatures 2, which can have different thicknesses, takes place in two steps. First the side located opposite the folded spine is trimmed and then the two remaining sides are simultaneously trimmed. The signatures 2 are each fed via a toothed-belt pair 20 from a storage cassette 1. The format of the signatures 2 to be trimmed can be adapted by means of stops 39. The first trimming takes place by moving the cutting elements, fixed to a plate 90 serving as a slide, along the counter-cutting elements. In the same way, by longitudinal movement of the cutting elements the trimming on the two sides is carried out, the signatures 2 being held in clamping jaws by means of displaceable parts 67. ……
