1,069,684. Grinding. SUPER-CUT Inc. Aug. 16, 1965 [Aug. 28, 1964], No. 35006/65. Heading B3D. A rotary segmental stone cutting saw comprises a substantially flat disc-like circular metallic saw blade, the rim of which is interrupted by a series of inwardly-extending radial slots 18, the bottom region of each slot having a centrally disposed groove 24, filler plugs 26 being disposed within the bottom regions of the slots and effectively filling the same and the grooves therein, and elongated arcuate cutting elements 20 secured to the rim between pairs of adjacent slots. The bottom regions of the slots are of part-circular, shape 22 with the groove 24 extending centrally around the shape. The filler plugs, which may be of copper, are initially in the form of slugs 40, Fig. 5 (not shown), and may be pressed between dies so as to conform to the circular shape and fill the groove 24 without protruding beyond the sides 32, 34 of the metallic blade. The flanges of the groove may be parallel or inclined, Fig. 7 (not shown). In another embodiment, the grooves are in the shape of V-troughs, Fig. 8 (not shown). The filling plugs may be of plastic material and be installed by a flowing operation with or without heat. The cutting elements 20 have crushed diamonds or other abrasive particles in a metal matrix and are secured to the rim of the blade by a soldering or brazing operation. |
