PURPOSE:To perform accurately a width adjusting control in a vertical rolling mill, by applying rolling loads under a minimum and a low pressures of a cylinder to a cold slab, and measuring the loads and the displacement quantities of a piston under both pressures, to set an original point at a low rolling load. CONSTITUTION:The centering of a cold slab 10 is performed by protruding a piston 3a of a cylinder 3 and advancing a screw 4. The piston 3a is advanced under a minimum pressure by retreating the piston 3a and advancing the screw 4 to bring a vetical roll 1 into contact with a slab 10 thereby detecting a quantity of stroke of the piston 3. Next, the piston 3a is advanced under a low pressure to push the slab 10 thereby detecting a rolling load and a quantity of stroke. At this time, a rolling load and the extent of displacement of the quantity of stroke are set to a diagram indicating a mill constant to set an original point at the low rolling load in a vertical mill. By this method, a linear control is performed even in a low load range, and an accuracy of width adjusting control during rolling reduction is improved.
|
