IC engine with heat exchanger in combustion chamber - has external source of heat for starting from cold

The IC engine has an ignition system formed by a small heat exchanger (2) which is fitted in the combustion chamber. When the engine is running, the heat exchanger (2) is supplied with heat from exhaust gas which is delivered by a pump (1). When starting from cold, an external source of heat (6) is used to supply hot gas to the pump inlet duct (18) and the connection to the engine exhaust pipe is shut off by a hinged flap (4). When the engine has warmed up the connection to the exhaust pipe is re-opened. USE - Ignition system for IC engine.
