To remove hairline cracks, insert notches around the circumference of circular saw blades for sawing stone are blanked under size and then finish ground with a profiled wheel. In plan view the machine used has a grinding head (22) and profiled wheel (6) mounted on vertical slideways (24, 25). The saw blade with blanked notches sits horizontally on a carriage (18) which can be fed towards the vertically reciprocating grinding wheel by means of the leadscrew and handwheel (15) until the correct depth is attained. The saw blade is indexed to the next notch and accurately located by the indexing finger (29). Grinding can be wet or dry. USE/ADVANTAGE - Simple, economical method of production removes hairline cracks and greatly increases saw blade life.
