The ship's hull is designed to operate efficiently at both low and high speed. This is achieved by arranging that the stern part of the ship or the outer shell of the stern part is either completely or partly movable relative to the main part of the hull. When operating at high speed the stern part or outer shell is raised so that it is above the water-line (31) of the main part of the hull. When operating at low speed the stern part is lowered so that its undersurface is aligned with the undersurface of the main part of the hull. USE/ADVANTAGE - More efficient operation.
