Coating or impregnating a substrate e.g. a forward travelling strip of material and comprises delivering a viscous substance in a narrow strip in one place on the strip of matter. The substance e.g. paint paste or impregnating liq. is removed from a reservoir and disposed on the strip by a distributor device. The strip is brought under tension in contact with the exit slot of a distributor head. The parts of the strip running into and out of the head make our angle of less than 180 deg.C, and the substance is volumetrically dosed from two opposing sides of the distributor head. The space inside the head and supply pipe are completely filled so that the substance flow in the head is composed of two practically identical flat streams which are joined near the exit slot before contacting the strip via the slot. @(21pp Dwg.
