The gas discharge bulb (1) has a glass bulb section with electrodes (3) and conductors (2) that lead to connecting pins (15, 16). The body of the lamp is sealed (14) within the sleeve of the main lighting unit (8). A reflector (7) and lens (9) direct the light output externally. The lighting unit assembly fits onto a compact starter circuit module (11) that has a built in socket (12) to receive the pins of the light bulb. The housing of the reflector is hinged (10) onto the module.
