FILM-FORMING QUENCHING OIL

PURPOSE:To obtain the subject quenching oil forming a lubricating film stable to continuous use over a long period and capable of stabilizing the cooling performance in quenching by compounding a mineral base oil with a zinc dialkyldithiophosphate and a petroleum sulfonic acid metal salt. CONSTITUTION:The objective quenching oil is produced by compounding (A) 100 pts.wt. of a mineral base oil with (B) 0.05-10 pts.wt. of a zinc dialkyldithiophosphate of formula (R is 3-12C primary or secondary alkyl or aryl) and (C) 0.05-30 pts.wt. of a petroleum sulfonic acid metal salt (preferably a salt of Ca. Mg or Ba) having a molecular weight of preferably about 400-900, especially about 400-600.
