<p>PURPOSE:To obtain a large driving power with a min. number of elements and number of wirings by forming two-terminal type switching elements of current rectifying elements having the forward characteristic of a low threshold voltage and the backward characteristic of a high threshold voltage. CONSTITUTION:A display picture element and a piece of the current rectifying element 11 on a single bran are formed in series at the intersected point of a data line 5 and a scanning line 6. For example, an a-Si diode is used as the current rectifying element and the voltage-current characteristics thereof are about 0.7V threshold voltage in the forward characteristic and about 10V threshold voltage in the backward characteristic. Namely, the two-terminal switching element is formed of the current rectifying element having the forward characteristic of the low threshold voltage and the backward characteristic of the high threshold voltage. A scanning signal is thereby provided with a period when the charge of the display picture element is reset by utilizing the backward characteristic and a period when the charge is injected by utilizing the forward characteristic. The active matrix liquid crystal display element having the simple structure and high quality is obtd. at a low cost in this way.</p> |
