PURPOSE:To produce the subject composition useful as a covering material, etc., for imparting high flame-retardance to electric wire, cable, etc., by compounding a polyolefin or ethylenic copolymer with powder of a polyaminobismaleimide and a metal hydroxide. CONSTITUTION:The objective composition is produced by compounding (A) 100 pts.wt. of a polyolefin or a copolymer of ethylene and other monomer with (B) 0.1-50 pts.wt. of powder of a polyaminobismaleimide having the structure of formula and (C) 10-150 pts.wt. of a metal hydroxide, preferably Mg(OH)2 or Al(OH)3. The depolymerization of the component A in combustion is suppressed by the component B and, at the same time, the water-generating decomposition of the component C takes place. The composition exhibits excellent flame retardance by the above synergistic effect. |
