TRAFFIC MEASURING EQUIPMENT

PURPOSE:To accurately survey the communication between nodes by taking packets transmitted on a network into a trap means and displaying information related to sources and destinations of traffic and information related to the intensity of traffic. CONSTITUTION:An address trap machine programmed with addresses of nodes on the network acquires source and destination addresses of each information packet transmitted on a transmission medium of the network without interrupting packet transmission and outputs a 16-bit word including node numbers corresponding to source and destination addresses of the packet. A high- speed execution software loop gathers counted values of respective nodes and stores results on a 32X32 array. High level software accumulates values of the array during continuation of the interval of a user-selected measuring time and quantizes each counted value based on set quantities of user-selected example. Thus, proper markers are displayed on a grating matrix.
