The front cover device comprises an inner cover which is pivoted to the front of the housing of the cassette or disc player to allow it to be moved between an open and closed position and an outer cover (7) incorporating the player operating controls. The outer cover (7) can be attached to the inner cover (6) via interfitting locating elements (11a, 11b; 28, 29). Pref. the front cover (7) is held in engagement with the inner cover (6) via a hooked element (21), a cooperating hooked lever and an electromagnet. ADVANTAGE - Allows simple removal of front cover for security of cassette or disc player.
