A parachute has a canopy (1) supported by rigid support members (2) which are connected to a ring (3). The parachute is adapted to be thrown in the air in the closed condition and then to open and float downwardly. In one embodiment a shank (9) is provided having an enlarged end which engages a ring (6) provided at the centre of the canopy. A weight (11) is mounted on the shank. The arrangement is such that the shank remains engaged with the ring whilst the parachute travels upwardly, but then becomes disengaged therefrom to enable the canopy to open. |
