In a water fitting, a valve body (16) is constructed on a manually longitudinally displaceable, spring-loaded push-rod (8). To avoid pressure impacts upon closure of the valve (13, 16), the push-rod (8) has a damping piston (15) for a damping chamber (12). Deposits in the latter are avoided by virtue of the fact that it lies in the water path between the inlet (2) and the outlet (3). During the closing movement (Z), the damping piston (15) blocks the damping chamber (12) on one side. Also lying in the water path is a pipe section (14) which is assigned a limiting piston (17) arranged on the push-rod (8). During the closing movement (Z), the limiting piston (17) forms with the pipe section (14) a displacement gap (18) through which the damping piston (15) pushes water out of the damping chamber (12). <IMAGE>
