PURPOSE:To mount a cation exchange membrane to an electrolytic cell by covering electrodes with cylindrical or bag-like cation exchange membranes which are flared at open ends and joining the adjacent cation exchange membranes in the flared ends via flanges. CONSTITUTION:In an electrolytic cell wherein finger-like electrodes are disposed in a nesting system, the open ends at one or both ends of cation exchange membranes covering electrodes are bent and flared and flanges are thermally melt stuck to the flared ends. Further, the flanges are joined to each other, whereby the cation exchange membranes are mounted. In the case of using cylindrical membranes, the opposite sides of the cation exchange membrane sheets are joined in a cylindrical shape, and both open ends are pressurized under heating whereby said ends are flared; further flanges having an aperture at each center are joined to the flared ends and such membranes are disposed in the cathode boxes. With the membrane of a bag-like body, one end of the cylindrical body is closed by heat sealing and the open end at one end is flared and flanged then the membrane is put on the cathode. |
