<p>The invention provides an apparatus for carrying out a combined air and water purification comprising one or more compartments provided with inlets and outlets (1, 2, 4, 5, 6) and partially filled with biologically active material, which apparatus is constructed in a manner such that the air (2) (4) to be purified and the water (1) to be purified, optionally supplemented with additional air, are passed simultaneously through an aerobic biological system containing micro-organisms which are able to utilize organic compounds present as contamination as energy source and/or carbon source. The invention further provides a method for operating such a purification. Further nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphate and/or other trace elements can be added as required.</p> |
