A hydroxyphenyl group-containing siloxane compound has the formula (I): <CHEM> wherein R is C1-4 alkyl; R<1> represents R or R<2>, where R<2> represents <CHEM> R<3> a C1-20 monovalent organic group and m and n are each 0 or a positive integer, provided that m + n is 1 or more. The siloxanes (I) may be prepared by reacting p-tert-butoxystyrene with the corresponding Si-H moiety-containing siloxane and hydrolysing the product. Used as modifiers, the siloxanes (I) impart good surface characteristics and physical properties to polycarbonate and polyester resins.
