Removal of solutes from enclosed space - esp. peritoneal cavity, by multi-stage dialysis

Removal of solutes (I) from an enclosed space is effected by contacting (I) with a first liq. (L1) in the enclosed space to form a soln. of (I) in L1; contacting the soln. with a second liq. (L2) via a membrane that is permeable to (I) and H2O but not to the 'dialysing substances' in L1, to form a soln. of (I) in L2; opt. contacting the soln. with further liqs. via further membranes; and removing the last liq. from the enclosed space and replacing it with fresh liq.
